Consumers’ receptivity to mHealth technologies: a hybrid PLS–ANN approach

PurposeMobile health (mHealth) technologies, in particular, have been sought after and advocated as a means of dealing with the pandemic situation. Despite the obvious advantages of mHealth, which include monitoring and exchanging health information via mobile applications, mHealth adoption has yet to take off exponentially. Expanding on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model, this study aims to better comprehend consumers’ receptivity to mHealth even after the pandemic has subsided.Design/methodology/approachThrough purposive sampling, data were collected from a sample of 345 mobile phone users and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and artificial neural networks (ANN) capture both linear and nonlinear relationships.FindingsEffort expectancy, performance expectancy, social influence, pandemic fear and trustworthiness positively influenced mHealth adoption intention, with the model demonstrating high predictive power from both the PLSpredict and ANN assessments.Research limitations/implicationsThe importance–performance map analysis (IPMA) results showed that social influence had great importance for mHealth uptake, but demonstrated low performance.Practical implicationsReferrals are an alternative that policymakers and mHealth service providers should think about to increase uptake. Overall, this study provides theoretical and practical insights that contribute to the advancement of digital healthcare, aligning with the pursuit of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) (good health and well-being).Originality/valueThis study has clarified both linear and nonlinear relationships among the factors influencing intentions to adopt mHealth. The findings from both PLS and ANN were juxtaposed, demonstrating consistent findings.

Generation Z's Decision to Use QRIS in Mataram City: UTAUT Model

In Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara, this study employs the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) paradigm to investigate the factors influencing Generation Z's adoption of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS). Using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method, 128 participants were included in a quantitative analysis to examine how performance expectations, effort expectations, social influences, and facilitating conditions affect behavior and intentions when using QRIS. The findings indicate that performance expectancies, social influences, and environmental factors all have a significant impact on behavioral intentions, even when effort expectancies do not directly affect them. Furthermore, a noteworthy correlation was also observed among QRIS use, behavioral intents, and enabling situations. These results emphasize how crucial it is to address issues like social influence, performance expectations, and other motivators in order to promote Generation Z's adoption of QRIS in Mataram City and bolster Indonesia's digital payments ecosystem.

Technology Adoption in Material Procurement: An Empirical Study Applying the UTAUT Model Among Construction Companies in India

The Indian construction industry faces many challenges, such as low productivity, project delays and a lack of professionalism. To remain competitive, construction companies must adopt innovative technologies to make their operations more efficient. In this context, the management of companies needs to understand employee attitudes and perceptions of technology adoption to make investment decisions for adopting new technologies. This study aims to assess the employees’ perceptions of e-procurement as part of technology adoption in the construction sector. The popular Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) framework was adapted to develop a study model with employee attitude added as a mediating variable. Data collected from 305 employees working in the materials departments of different private construction companies are analyzed using SPSS Amos, a covariance-based structural equation modelling (CBSEM) tool. The study results revealed the strength of the predictor variables in determining the predicted variable and the significant role of the mediating variable in shaping employee perceptions. The results can provide valuable information to the management of the construction companies about which factors promote the adoption and acceptance of digital technologies. This awareness is greatly helpful in changing or adjusting the situation to improve employee perceptions of accepting new technologies.

Mobile Payment Service Adoption: Understanding OVO E-Wallet Customers among GEN Y and GEN Z in Bandung, West Java

This study aimed to determine the factors that influence the Y and Z generation consumers in using OVO E-wallet in the city of Bandung. The analysis employed the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, namely performance expectancy (PE), social influence (SI), and behavioral intention (BI). The data analysis was carried out using the structural equation model (SEM-PLS) on the final data collected as many as 400 respondents. The obtained results indicated that the performance expectancy (PE) and social influence (SI) have a positive and significant effect on the behavioral intention (BI) regarding the use of OVO mobile payment. In addition, the social influence (SI) moderates the performance expectancy (PE) towards the behavioral intention (BI). Generations Y and Z have high awareness and strong enthusiasm for adopting OVO mobile payment as long as it provides benefits. One strategy to encourage the adoption of OVO mobile payments among the Y and Z generations is to facilitate financial transactions in an expeditious manner. The social influence (SI) is also a factor regarding the adoption of OVO mobile payments. This suggests that generations Y and Z rely more on advice and recommendations from important people (such as family, friends and relatives) in the adoption of OVO mobile wallet.

FACTORS AFFECTING ADOPTION OF FINTECH IN NEPAL

Fintech is the rapidly growing sector has had a profound impact on the global world, transforming various aspects of financial services and shaping the way people manage their money and engage in financial transactions. According to (Thakor, 2020) “FinTech is the use of technology to provide new and improved financial services by leveraging cutting-edge technologies to offer innovative, efficient, and user-centric solutions”. It's important to note that the FinTech landscape is constantly evolving, so there may have been further developments since then. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) is utilized to analyze the degree that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived risk, policy measures and the demographic profile has kinds of impact on the adoption of Fintech in Nepal. The total of 65 questionnaire sample was collected as verified samples for analysis. It was found that 3 factors had a significant positive relationship with the adoption except perceived risk which showed negative relationship. An extended UTAUT model study on the adoption behavior of artificial intelligence technology in construction industry

BACKGROUND: In recent years, Despite the proven economic growth brought by AI technology globally, the adoption of AI in the construction industry faces obstacles. To better promote the adoption of AI technology in the construction domain, this study, based on the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, delves into the key factors influencing the adoption of AI technology in the construction industry. By introducing personal-level influencing factors such as AI anxiety and personal innovativeness, the UTAUT model is extended to comprehensively understand users’ attitudes and adoption behaviors towards AI technology. METHODOLOGY: The research framework is based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) with the added constructs of artificial intelligence anxiety and individual Innovativeness. These data were collected through a combination of online and offline surveys, with a total of 258 valid data collected and analyzed using structural equation modeling. RESULTS: The study found that Usage Behavior (UB) in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) is positively influenced by several factors. Specifically, Performance Expectancy (PE) (β= 0.266, 95%), Effort Expectancy (EE) (β= 0.262, 95%), and Social Influence (SI) (β= 0.131, 95%) were identified as significant predictors of UB. Additionally, Facilitating Conditions (FC) (β= 0.168, 95%) also positively influenced UB.Moreover, the study explored the moderating effects of Artificial Intelligence Anxiety and Individual Innovativeness on the relationships between Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort Expectancy (EE), Social Influence (SI), and Facilitating Conditions (FC) with the Usage Behavior of AI technology. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: This study lie in informing industry stakeholders about the multifaceted dynamics influencing AI adoption. Armed with this knowledge, organizations can make informed decisions, implement effective interventions, and navigate the challenges associated with integrating AI technology into the construction sector.

Green Consumer Profiling and Online Shopping of Imperfect Foods: Extending UTAUT with Web-Based Label Quality for Misshapen Organic Produce.

Misshapen organic vegetables in the food supply chain can easily be discarded in the market if they do not meet aesthetic standards. E-commerce technology enables the distribution of imperfect organic produce from farmers to potential customers, mitigating agri-food waste issues. Green consumers are prospective customers of imperfect produce because their purchasing decisions are made based on sustainability and environmental considerations. However, each individual's degree of green consumption differs, impacting their preferences and behaviors toward green buying activity. Considering the gap between the varying levels of green consumers and their intention to purchase imperfect organic produce through e-commerce, this study aimed to profile three distinct green consumers and explore factors affecting their Online Green Purchase Intention (OGPI) for imperfect organic vegetables. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) was applied in this study, and Web-Based Label Quality (WLQ) was introduced as an extended construct to describe green consumers' perceptions of the credibility and reliability of labels or product-related information displayed on e-commerce platforms. This study involved 668 internet users from environmental platforms and online communities of organic food enthusiasts. First, the consumers were classified into dark-green, semi/light green, and non-green using a cluster analysis approach. Then, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Multi-Group Analysis (MGA) were employed to determine the factors affecting OGPI among green consumer groups. This research found that Performance Expectancy (PE), Social Influence (SI), and WLQ positively influenced dark-green consumers' online green purchase intention. Only Performance Expectancy (PE) positively affected semi/light-green consumers' OGPI. Meanwhile, the Facilitating Condition (FC) positively affected non-green consumers' online green purchase intentions. This research revealed dark-green consumers as the target segment, broadening customers' perspectives on accepting imperfect organic products, including e-commerce technology. Moreover, the research results can be utilized for marketing and business purposes and contribute to food policy.

Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology in Evaluating Voters' Intention Towards the Adoption of Electronic Forensic Election Audit System

Electronic voting systems have been introduced to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and transparency of the election process in many countries around the world, including Nigeria. However, concerns have been raised about the security and integrity of these systems. One way to address these concerns is through the implementation of electronic forensic election audit systems. This study aims to evaluate voters' intention to the adoption of electronic forensic election audit systems using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model which is a robust and reasonable theory for technology acceptance. In the study, the UTAUT model which is a widely used model in the field of information systems to explain the factors that influence individuals' intention to use a technology by integrating performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, cost factor and privacy factor to voters’ behavioural intention was proposed. A total of 294 sample data were collected from a selected population of electorates who had at one time or the other participated in at least an electioneering process in Nigeria. The data was then analyzed statistically using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results obtained show that all variables have significant effect on the electorates’ behavioral intention to adopt the development and implementation of electronic forensic election audit system in Nigeria.

Utility and hedonic perception- Customers’ intention towards using of QR codes in mobile payment of Generation Y and Generation Z

This research endeavors to decipher the complex interplay of Generation Y and Z's perceptions of effort, performance, social norms, usefulness, and hedonics, and how these factors influence their adoption of QR codes for mobile money transactions. This qualitative study focused on Generation Y and Z mobile payment users in Bangladesh, employing Google Forms as a tool for data collection and an objective sampling strategy to distribute questionnaires. The data collected from 300 valid responses was meticulously analyzed using structured equation modeling (SEM), grounded in the theoretical framework provided by the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) theories. The findings of the research underscore the significant influence of effort expectation, performance expectations, and subjective norms on users' utilitarian perspective and satisfaction with QR payment technology, thereby highlighting their critical role in fostering its wider acceptance. The insights gleaned from this research shed light on the determinants influencing users' propensity to adopt QR payment technology. These insights could be instrumental for service providers in customizing their offerings to cater more effectively to their customers' needs and preferences. This research, with its significant contributions to literature and a robust methodology, sets a benchmark for similar future studies in this domain.

Technology Adoption by Rural Women: A Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) Analysis

This article analyses the factors that affect the adoption of technology by rural women in the Umguza district of Zimbabwe. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) model, provides the theoretical framework for understanding the factors that influence rural women’s adoption of technology. By situating the investigation within the UTAUT2 framework, the study seeks to offer a more refined understanding of the determinants affecting technology adoption among rural women and the implications for inclusivity. A deductive approach was used, and information was collected through a survey of 250 rural women in the 19 wards of Umguza district, as well as reviewing secondary data in the form of government, non-governmental, industry reports and scholarly articles. Regression analysis was used to draw insights into the factors influencing the adoption of technology by rural women. The study concluded that Performance Expectancy (PE), Facilitating conditions (FC), Social Influence (SI) and Effort Expectancy (EE) influence technology adoption by rural women in Zimbabwe. However, Hedonic Motivation (HM), Price Value (PV) and Habit (HT) were found not to influence the decision to adopt the technology. The results of this study help to shed light on the factors affecting technology adoption among rural women and map strategies to promote technology adoption. The recommendations from this study can provide insights to government, private sector, and civil society seeking to promote the adoption of technology by rural women and contribute to the body of research on digitalisation and adoption of technology by rural women.

Pre-Service Teachers’ GenAI Anxiety, Technology Self-Efficacy, and TPACK: Their Structural Relations with Behavioral Intention to Design GenAI-Assisted Teaching

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has taken educational settings by storm in the past year due to its transformative ability to impact school education. It is crucial to investigate pre-service teachers’ viewpoints to effectively incorporate GenAI tools into their instructional practices. Data gathered from 606 pre-service teachers were analyzed to explore the predictors of behavioral intention to design Gen AI-assisted teaching. Based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, this research integrates multiple variables such as Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), GenAI anxiety, and technology self-efficacy. Our findings revealed that GenAI anxiety, social influence, and performance expectancy significantly predicted pre-service teachers’ behavioral intention to design GenAI-assisted teaching. However, effort expectancy and facilitating conditions were not statistically associated with pre-service teachers’ behavioral intentions. These findings offer significant insights into the intricate relationships between predictors that influence pre-service teachers’ perspectives and intentions regarding GenAI technology.

Accepting video conferencing technology as an in-service training tool for health professionals

AbstractThis study investigates healthcare professionals’ acceptance of video conferences for in-service training in terms of performance expectancy and social influence. Furthermore, it attempts to determine which properties of video conferences influenced and predicted the adoption of video conferencing technology. We employed the cross-sectional survey research design, one of the descriptive research designs. The participants consisted of 181 physicians from a medical specialty society. To collect data, we used the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology-2 (UTAUT-2) scale. Findings revealed that being able to ask questions during the video conferences, not paying for participation, timing problems, and lack of social interaction predicted the acceptance of video conferences for in-service training regarding performance expectancy and social influence among physicians. This article offers practical recommendations for professionals to adopt and maximize the use of videoconferencing for in-service training. The findings of this study will shed light on future practices and studies regarding the use of video conferencing systems for in-service training by revealing the preferences of physicians and the factors affecting their acceptance behavior.

Factors Affecting the Adoption of HRIS: An Empirical Study Using Extended UTAUT2 Model

Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) have become indispensable in modern businesses, reshaping the landscape of Human Resource (HR) service delivery. Despite their crucial role, the adoption and implementation of HRIS present persistent challenges influenced by diverse factors. This study delves into the adoption dynamics of HRIS and their practical utilization in developing countries, specifically in Bangladesh. Leveraging the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, the research incorporates Hedonic Motivation (HM) and Personal Innovativeness (PI) as additional factors, forming an extended UTAUT2 model. Employing a quantitative approach, survey data was collected from 255 respondents, including top-level management, HR professionals, and executives from public and private organizations in Chittagong and Dhaka, Bangladesh. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the partial least squares (PLS) method through SmartPLS was employed for model validation. Results reveal that all selected parameters exert a positive and direct influence on HRIS adoption. The results aim to enhance comprehension of the intricate aspects of HRIS adoption, providing valuable insights for organizations to tailor implementation strategies. These findings are pertinent for policymakers and HR managers, offering insights into overcoming obstacles associated with HRIS adoption and optimizing HR practices, thereby contributing to organizational performance improvements.

Autonomous Vehicles Perception, Acceptance, and Future Prospects in the GCC: An Analysis Using the UTAUT-Based Model

The emergence of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) marks a significant advancement in the automotive industry, transitioning from driver-assistance technologies to fully autonomous systems. This change is particularly impactful in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, which is a significant automotive market and technological hub. However, the adoption of AVs in the GCC faces unique challenges due to the influence of cultural norms and geographical characteristics. Our research utilizes a customized framework of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), which is adapted to include cultural and geographical factors. This approach fills a gap in the existing literature by identifying and analyzing the key factors affecting the adoption of AVs in the GCC. Our findings indicate a difference in the receptiveness towards AVs among different demographics. Younger participants displayed a more favorable attitude towards AVs compared to older individuals. Additionally, gender and educational attainment play significant roles in the acceptance of AVs. Specifically, our results suggest that there are variations in acceptance rates among genders and individuals with varying levels of education. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has a relatively high acceptance rate of AVs due to its advanced infrastructure and openness to technological innovations. Our study identifies facilitating conditions and performance expectancy as crucial determinants of intention to use AVs in the GCC. It emphasizes the importance of infrastructure readiness and the perceived advantages of AVs in promoting their adoption.

UTAUT Model Mediated by Government Information System to the Intention to Use of Indonesian Local Government

Purpose – This study investigates the role of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model on the intention to use mediated by the Government Information System. In the context of this study, the implementation of government information systems through the application of local government information systems (SIPD) in Regional Governments in Indonesia. Methodology/approach –The population in this study includes: Primary High Leadership Officials, Administrator Officers, Supervisory Officers, and SIPD Management ASNs in the Ministry of Home Affairs and local governments with a total sample of 358 respondents. This study uses a form of sampling in the form of purposive sampling and probability sampling, with the sampling technique used in the form of simple random. When viewed from the relationship between variables, this study is included in associative research. The data processing and analysis techniques used in this study were carried out through Descriptive Statistical Tests and Structural Equation Model (SEM). Findings – Based on the results of the study, it is known that Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, and Facilitating Condition, either directly or indirectly through the Government Information System as the variable that mediates it, have had an influence on the Intention To use SIPD application. Novelty/value – The novelty of this study fills the research gap by involving the role of the government information system (SIPD) as a mediating factor between performance expectations, effort expectations, social influences, and conditions that facilitate intention to use which is limited only to age and experience as control variables. Thus, a more comprehensive picture of the results of how the influence of factors in UTAUT is mediated by the role of SIPD, and see the extent to which the implications of implementing SIPD in local government can affect the intention to use by civil servants in Indonesia and as recommendations for related parties in developing government information systems.

Adoption and use factors of artificial intelligence and big data by citizens

The impact of artificial intelligence on people’s lives is demonstrated today. Previous literature has shown that the use of a specific technology is directly linked to the individuals’ intention to use it. The aim of this paper is to study the factors that determine the adoption and use of artificial intelligence and big data in Spain, using a research model based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), proposed by Venkatesh et al. (2003). This work addresses the specific gap in the validation of the original theoretical model of UTAUT in two dimensions, with respect to the adoption of artificial intelligence by citizens and with respect to the factors that influence this adoption, evaluating the previous ones and proposing some new ones considering the current context. The methodology used is based on a national survey, and it analyzes the research model using the statistical technique of Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), which details the mediating and moderating relationships between constructs. The results show that Intention to Use has a direct positive influence on the Use of artificial Intelligence and big data, confirming previous literature. Performance Expectancy is the strongest predictor of Intention to Use, and indirectly of the adoption of artificial intelligence and big data applications. Effort Expectancy, in its application to the adoption of AI and big data by citizens, is an indirect determinant mediated by the Intention to Use, but its total effect (direct + indirect) is not significant.

A study on behavioral intentions of artificial intelligence learning platform: comparing the perspectives of teachers and students

ABSTRACT Artificial Intelligence Learning Platform (AILP) plays a key role in AI education. However, there are few studies investigating the behavioral intentions of teachers and students on using AILP and the sample size is small. This study examines factors affecting the behavioral intentions of 299 teachers and 347 students from China on using AILP. “Perceived Playfulness” is integrated into the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model as the theoretical framework. Moreover, this study analyzes the moderating effects of gender, age, experience, voluntariness of use, teachers’ teaching level, teaching experience, and students’ major. The results of research through two structural equation models show that: (1) Students focus more on performance expectancy, whereas teachers are more concerned with perceived playfulness. (2) Students are easily affected by social influence, while teachers are not. (3) Both teachers and students are impacted by effort expectancy and facilitating conditions. This research provides a scientific comparison of affecting factors about behavioral intentions on using AILP between teachers and students, which can be used by researchers and AILP designers to optimize AILP design for better AI education.

Examining the moderating role of online celebrity trustworthiness and risk propensity in UTAUT2 framework: A mixed-method approach

Utilizing the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) framework, this research delved into the behavioral intentions and actual usage of fantasy sports gaming apps. The moderating influence of celebrity trustworthiness and risk propensity is also explored. The proposed hypotheses were tested using responses from a substantial sample of 460 sports fantasy gaming app users. The research deployed a mixed-method approach, combining both covariance-based and partial-least square structural equation modeling tech- niques. The investigation findings revealed an influence on behavioral intentions and actual use. Specifically, performance expectancy, hedonic motivation, habit, and social influence emerged as significant determinants affecting users’ intentions and behaviors. The study indicates a significant moderating role of celebrity trustworthiness on the relationship be- tween performance expectancy, hedonic motivation, habit, and social influence concerning behavioral intentions. Risk propensity moderated the relationship between behavioral inten- tions and actual usage behavior. As a contribution to the expanding literature, the research extended the application of the UTAUT2 framework to the context of sports fantasy gaming apps. The research also provides valuable insights for researchers and professionals associ- ated with sports fantasy gaming apps and future research directions.

Understanding mature students' intention to use mobile learning in higher education: integrating personality traits and UTAUT

PurposeThis study aims to provide new insights into the relationship between individual characteristics, particularly personality traits and mature students' intention to use (ITU) mobile learning (m-learning).Design/methodology/approachThe research model was constructed by integrating the Big Five personality traits into the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model. The data were collected from mature students at a university research center in Macau. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the data and test the proposed hypotheses.FindingsThe results reveal that personality traits play a significant role in determining mature students' ITU m-learning technology. In particular, social influence (SI) mediates the relationship between agreeableness (AGB) and ITU.Originality/valueThis study examines how personality traits collectively influence mature students' receptiveness and intentions toward m-learning. As mature learners' motivations and preferences remain underexplored, insights into trait-technology links could address current gaps and optimize mobile educational support tailored to their distinct characteristics and needs.
